Can you spare a few of hours each week to befriend and support our service user to enjoy activities out in the community?
Milestones Trust is a health and social care charity which supports people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and people living with dementia. The services are provided through a network of residential/nursing care homes and supported living homes throughout the Bristol and South Gloucestershire areas.
We are looking for a female volunteer to befriend and support our resident who has mental health needs to go out into the community and enjoy activities such as; shopping in town, visiting coffee shops and cafes, swimming and plan occasional day trips to Weston Super Mare and other places of choice. Activities will be planned week by week.
The resident is independent, but has lost her confidence going out on her own and would really like a volunteer to accompany her and build her confidence back up as well as spending one to one time with someone.
We are looking for a volunteer who is:-
• Available once or twice a week (days can be flexible, apart from Monday and Thursday mornings)
• Friendly, encouraging and motivating
• Patient and understanding
• Has a good sense of humour
No other particular skills are required but good communication, confidence and a desire to help people would be a great advantage.
You will complete a 4-6 week induction at the home to familiarise yourself with the service user and the volunteer role, and the home manager will ensure both you and the resident are happy and confident within the home before heading out into the community. There will also be support from staff at the home at all times.
We pay for agreed travel expenses and food/drink allowance when going out for coffee and meals.
Please note due to the nature of our service user group a DBS check will be carried out and references will be taken up.
If this sounds like something you would like to get involved in, please either give the volunteering team a ring to discuss the opportunity on 0117 9709 356/319, or complete the application form attached.
