CHAS is going through a period of sustainable growth, to meet the increasing demand for housing and homelessness advice. This role offers the opportunity to join an organisation at an exciting time of its development.

Focusing on tackling issues of homelessness and unsuitable housing, CHAS is a charity dedicated to providing lasting solutions to people in housing crisis. By providing high quality housing advice and support, we aim to improve lives in the Bristol community. CHAS provides free, independent and confidential advice on housing and related matters, to anyone in housing need in Bristol and the surrounding area.

The successful candidate will join an established board of eight Trustees that have a broad range of skills and expertise. We are a small but growing charity, currently with 5 members of staff, 3 of whom work in our advice service.

We are currently looking for trustees with a range of skills, which may include finance, law, marketing and communications, fundraising. As a trustee at CHAS you will be expected to attend and contribute to monthly board meetings. As a small charity we are looking for trustees who can volunteer 1-2 days of their time between board meetings e.g. over email, telephone, subcommittee meetings. The aim of the trustee’s role is to:

  • Support CHAS to achieve its aims and objectives
  • Ensure the charity functions within its legal and financial requirements.
  • Act as an ambassador for the organisation
  • Offer your views and experience to support the strategic direction of the charity
  • Use specific skills, knowledge or experience to support the charity’s operations and its strategic decision making
  • Take part in monthly board meetings, and offer additional time between meetings

  • Skills and experience to bring to the role

  • Time to offer to the charity.
  • Strategic vision and an ability to think creatively.
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
  • A willingness to accept the legal duties and responsibilities of trusteeship. (Training available)
