Background

Bristol Women’s Voice is a charity working to make women’s equality in Bristol a reality. We make sure that women’s voices have been heard and their concerns acted upon when key decisions are taken in the city.  We work to increase awareness of women’s rights and to make sure services meet women’s needs. BWV brings women together to share ideas and experiences, support campaigns and celebrate success so that together we can make Bristol a showcase for women’s involvement, empowerment and equality.

The Government Equalities Office (GEO), has awarded BWV funding to work with women in Bristol who face multiple barriers to achieving their potential. The project will also identify these barriers and ways to overcome them and to share this information with the government and local organisations such as the West of England Combined Authority  and Bristol City Council to inform policy and actions.

The project will involve working with organisations that work with the most marginalised women (as defined by GEO) this includes women who are: homeless, working as street sex workers, refugees, disabled, women from particular groups with lower employment rates such as Bangladeshi, Somali and women with few educational qualifications. BWV will contract up to 10 organisations who will run facilitated discussions with groups of women to identify their specific barriers and actions to address them. The project will provide training for the facilitators and for local women to interview women who are not part of groups to identify their issues.

BWV are seeking an experienced self-employed Research Analyst who will provide input into the first phase of the project including working with the Project Manager and Evaluation Consultant to finalise the templates to be used for discussion groups and individual conversations. The analyst will support and input into the training of facilitators and researchers. The analyst is expected to review the templates, session structure and adjust the templates following feedback from the pilot sessions, making sure that any gaps in the groups of women we are reaching are addressed and to ensure that the information gathered is meeting the aims of the project.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Support formative research to develop specific data collection tools which will lead to the identification of issues that prevent targeted women from achieving their full potentials with suggested solution pathways
  • Pilot discussion groups data/information collection template, Implement tests of processes, and protocols
  • Modify template as need be based on result of the pilot.
  • Interpret data and analyse results using qualitative and quantitative techniques
  • Develop and implement data analyses, data collection systems and other strategies that optimize efficiency and quality
  • Identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Filter and “clean” data
  • Inform and advise Project Manager and partners
  • Working with the Project Manager, meet with partners to discuss procedures
  • Create detailed reports of findings which will feed into the monthly report to be prepared by the Project Manager for submission to the Steering Group.
  • Simplify findings into presentations
  • Organize and store data for future research projects
  • Document all data and research procedures
  • Create diagrams and documentation to pinpoint problems and solutions
  • Recommend changes and improvements based on research findings
  • Write reports, white papers, and other published documents where needed.
  • Contribute towards the final Project Report that will submitted at the end of the project

Required Qualifications:

  • Degree in Social or Behavioural Science field, or any relevant field.
  • Expertise with qualitative and quantitative methods of data collection and analysis
  • 2 or more years of experience with data and research analysis applied research or data management environment; experience in IT, systems analysis, quality assurance, or relevant position
  • Experience of working with community-based research is essential
  • Demonstrated experience summarizing and sharing the results of data analysis
  • Able to manipulate large, complex data sets using a variety of software applications (SPSS, SAS, Excel, Microsoft Office Suite), including the use of relational databases
  • Able to perform statistical analysis
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including with ideally with some of the communities of women the project is seeking to engage and technical writing skills
  • Able to multitask, prioritize, and manage time efficiently

The fee for this work will be £20,000 (11 months) in total including expenses and VAT where applicable, payable monthly in arrears upon completion of agreed milestones.
