Help clients to access services by providing transport to those who are unable to get here any other way.



If you enjoy meeting people, like to have a flexible commitment and want to help in a practical and supportive way then this role could suit you.


Why we need you?

In order to make sure more people can benefit from our services we need volunteers to help those with limited access to transport get to the centre. This might be for financial, practical or medical reasons.


What will I be doing?

  • Working with people living with the impact with cancer and very occasionally, their supporters.
  • Meeting clients and bringing them to the Penny Brohn UK, probably waiting while they have their treatment, and taking them home again.
  • Occasionally meeting people from train and bus stations or the airport
  • May have to help people who are physically weak to get in and out of cars/buildings


What skills will I need?

  • Be committed to the work of Penny Brohn UK
  • Be able to respond to emails requesting lifts (from staff at Penny Brohn UK)
  • Good basic interpersonal skills, to interact with clients and put them at their ease
  • Car driver, with full UK license and suitable insurance
  • Able to carry light bags and assist someone in and out of the car/building where necessary.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of the clients
  • Need to be reliable to get people to appointments on time
  • Needs to have own vehicle (expenses paid) 

How much time do I need to commit?

It may be a regular commitment each week, or a variety of times/days. We ask that drivers can do one lift a week.


What training and support can I expect?

Induction and support from volunteer manager.  The volunteer will also be invited to attend a one day Introduction course. Driver Handbook provided. Regular contact with relevant staff at Penny Brohn UK.
