If so, would you be interested in helping to facilitate our weekly creative writing group in Southmead?

Southmead Creative Writers’ group was set up by local residents a year ago, and has a core group of 8 attendees – most of whom are of the older generation.  They are now looking for someone to support with the facilitation of this group and explore opportunities for the group to grow.

What will you be asked to do?

  • Plan for each group weekly before the session e.g. planning activities, deciding how to spend the time of the session, preparing ‘homework’
  • Be present for the whole session as a supportive/leadership figure, depending upon what is most appropriate for the nature of the group
  • Ensure a welcoming, friendly and supportive environment for attendees
  • Provide emotional support to attendees
  • Encourage and motivate clients to take up new activities outside of the group
  • Generate creative suggestions for future sessions or new groups
  • Keep project coordinator updated on any issues or concerns which may arise

  • Able to communicate effectively
  • Ability to develop and maintain constructive relationships which value individuals’ strengths and knowledge
  • Excellent listening skills
  • Awareness of the needs of people who are socially isolated, depressed, bereaved, and who may regard accessing new groups as intimidating
  • Comfortable working with others
  • Able to maintain professional boundaries and maintain confidentiality
  • Reliable

How much time will you need to give?

You will be asked to commit to approximately 2-3 hours per week for a period of at least 6months, after which time a reference will be provided if requested.  This will be on Wednesday mornings (the group runs from 10.30am-12pm)
