We Care Home Improvements is a non-profit making organisation committed to delivering and developing services for older people and disabled people to enable them to remain in their own homes and live independent lives. We are the largest independent Home Improvement Agency in England and in 2018 we celebrated winning The Handyperson Service of the Year Award.

We are commissioned to provide these services by a range of public bodies including Local Authorities and Clinical Commissioning Groups, but as public funding continues to be under pressure and people are living longer we face a changing landscape. People quite rightly expect to remain independent and living comfortably in their own homes for as long as they choose – and our goal is to enable them to achieve just that. We proactively generate additional sources of revenue, and are currently increasing our capacity to service the “self-funder” market – those who have financial means themselves, but who feel that they can benefit from our expert support as they adapt and alter their homes to address their needs in later life.
We operate a Home Independence Showroom, in Bristol, equipped with adapted working kitchens, adapted bathrooms and bathing displays, stair lifts, through floor lift, and hoists and are able to offer Occupational Therapist assessments in the home.
This is an incredibly exciting time for us and in order to support the management team in the execution of our 5 year strategy we wish to strengthen our Board by recruiting 2 new members.
Alongside statutory Board duties, our members work closely with the Leadership Team of We Care to provide advice and support, and will play a key role in supporting an ambitious programme of change and development. The Board meets 6 times per year in the early evening and members are expected to actively support project work allocated to them and sit on advisory groups, which meet as appropriate. This is an unpaid voluntary role.
We want to diversify Board membership and bring in a wider range of perspectives and experiences. We are particularly keen to appoint members with expertise in the following two areas:
– The modern health and social care service especially in terms of partnership working and service development to support our growing links with the health and social care
– Entrepreneurial commercial experience to support the rapid growth of our privately –funded services.
We encourage applications from individuals who share our aims and objectives and who can bring enthusiasm, commitment and expertise to the role. We would expect potential Members to have a strong interest in the needs and aspirations of older and disabled people.
