Be a part of an amazing group of women supporting women.
Womankind is an established charity helping hundreds of women every year to improve their mental health and wellbeing. Our wonderful volunteers are the backbone of our organisation. We need you!
Whether you‘re looking for job experience, a sense of community, to learn or develop new skills, or just because you are passionate about helping other women…
Our Helpline volunteers offer confidential listening support (via telephone and webchat) to any woman on any issue, including domestic and sexual abuse and mental health issues. Volunteers commit to one 3-hour Helpline shift per week once they have completed our comprehensive training programme. You will also have weekly support from the service coordinator and monthly group supervision with your fellow volunteers.
What you will need - excellent communication and interpersonal skills, ability to listen to others, non-judgmental attitude, the ability to empathise with others, commitment, consistency, reliability and patience.
What volunteers say
“Womankind is doing amazing and essential work for women and I am incredibly proud to have the opportunity to be involved.”
“The helpline gives me access to the experience of others (often difficult/traumatic) which I wouldn’t have otherwise. I find this humbling and in a way feel a sort of privilege in hearing their stories.”
“The support you get from volunteer co-ordinators is great, both at your de-brief after shift and at monthly supervision, where you get together with other volunteers.”
“There is a feeling of doing something worthwhile … although sometimes we need reminding, we are definitely making a difference (no matter how small) to women’s lives.”
“Womankind is an amazing organisation, providing amazing services for women. If you’re thinking of volunteering for them, I’d definitely recommend it.”
