We are looking for a Helpline Volunteer to Help facilitate the telephone during core hours Monday – Friday from 10-4pm. The aim of the service is to offer a space to anyone who may need to talk about Benzos or other prescription drugs.
Volunteers will undertake a training program in which they learn to listen to callers in a non-judgmental way and respond non-defensively. Sometimes people are isolated or have no-one close to talk to. Once you have completed your training you will be able to provide information on aspects of Benzo use, Z drugs and other prescribed drugs e.g. rights etc. which can support callers in making their own informed choices.
The helpline receives calls both from people who want a one-off session and general advice, and callers who may ring back over a period of time to support themselves with their withdrawal from prescription drugs. Callers ring in with a variety of issues ranging from withdrawal, tolerance to drugs, paranoia, fear, isolation, anxiety, depression or suicidal feelings. Sometimes callers want information around their tolerance withdrawal and reduction prescriptions. Sometimes a family member/carer may call to get advice. Volunteers are trained to respond to all calls.
Please either log onto www.bataid.org to complete an expression of interest or call us on 0117 9663629 to be sent an information pack.
