Learning disability charity Brandon Trust’s Elm Tree Farm is a social enterprise within a busy 35-acre site in Stapleton, Bristol. This vibrant, busy farm provides an opportunity for training, employment and wellbeing outcomes for people with learning disabilities and autism.
You’ll assist the project leader to support those who attend, help to develop the project, support with the day-to-day running of the farm and contribute to managing activities. If you’re new to health and social care, we provide full training.
You’ll help with tasks such as feeding, mucking out and livestock checks with the group, and contribute to running projects and activities.
You’ll support people with learning disabilities to achieve their desired outcomes and work with them to care for livestock both large and small. You’ll work with the project leader to ensure all livestock attain the five freedoms and strive for innovation and excellence in creating systems which meet the animal’s needs. You’ll also get involved in general farm maintenance.
You’ll work with the people we support in a person-centred way. You’ll ensure that all administration and record keeping is kept in good order.
You’ll have experience of working on a care farm or in a similar support role in a group based outdoor activity setting as well as hands-on livestock including handling cattle, sheep and pigs.
You’ll have a knowledge of farming practices and an animal care/husbandry qualification is desirable. You’ll also have Level 2 Maths and English qualifications (or able to demonstrate this capacity through assessment) and a full, clean driving licence.
Patient, approachable and with a caring outlook, you have excellent verbal and written communication skills and an attitude towards others based on respect, dignity and equality.
