Details of Role:

We are Caring in Bristol. We are a local charity, with a mission to solve homelessness in our city. From prevention to emergency support, we work together with our community to create innovative projects that support people, of all ages, at risk of or currently experiencing homelessness.

How Nightstop Works:

Nightstop prevents homelessness through community hosting. It helps young people aged 18-25 years who are in immediate housing crisis by providing safe accommodation in the homes of trained and vetted volunteers called ‘hosts’. Guests are hosted on a night by night basis, whilst longer term appropriate accommodation is sought.

Role Description:

  •    To provide guests with a clean, safe and private room, an evening meal and breakfast.
  • To provide guests with a shower/bath and the opportunity to wash their clothes.
  • To liaise with Nightstop staff regarding availability and to provide regular feedback after each placement.
  • To observe clear professional boundaries with Nightstop guests.

Necessary skills, attitudes and knowledge:

We’re looking for people who have a desire to work with disadvantaged young people and a basic understanding of the issues that homeless people face. You will have the ability to relate to people on a one to one, non-judgmental basis. On a practical level, you will need a spare room available for a Nightstop guest to use at short notice and a willingness to participate in training and supervision.

Training, support and supervision:

All volunteer hosts will receive an induction training session and be offered ongoing training.

You will have staff support available throughout the hosting process and access to our 24

hour on call emergency phone number.

All volunteer hosts will be provided with regular support meetings and supervision.

Benefits to the Volunteer:

Contribute to a service that really does make a difference to people’s lives.

Personal & professional development through training, support and ongoing evaluation.

All out-of-pocket expenses are reimbursed.
