Hours: Minimum of 6 board meetings per year (lasting 1.5-2hrs each) and 4 finance sub-committees per year (lasting 1.5-2hrs each). Currently via Zoom or MS Teams
The treasurer is expected to sit on the finance sub-committee which they will chair (the expectation is that each trustee joins at least one sub-committee)
Carers Support Centre (CSC) is a Bristol based independent registered charity, established in 1997. We are a network partner of Carers Trust and have gained the Carers Trust quality mark as a centre of Excellence. CSC provides services to carers of all ages in Bristol and South Gloucestershire. These include a confidential telephone information and advice line, carers’ magazine, Carers Emergency Card, one-to-one casework support, carers’ groups, time-out activities, carers breaks and training. This is an exciting time to be involved in the governance and development of CSC and the Board of Trustees play a pivotal role in this. Having recently said goodbye to some longstanding members of the Board, we have been reviewing and refreshing the membership. We are looking to expand the number of trustees on our Board and are specifically looking for someone to join us who has expertise in Finance to fill the role of Treasurer.
The Treasurer provides a key interface between trustees and management on finance issues, liaising with the Finance Manager and CEO and offering advice and guidance to the Board on financial planning and strategy.
We are always keen to hear from people who might expand the skills and experience of our body of trustees for the benefit of CSC, so if you have other skills do get in touch, especially if you have knowledge of the following:
previous work in the charity sector
(CSC does have an agreement with a provider of HR services and legal support as required, so it would not be expected that a trustee would need to be solely relied on for this type of expertise)
CSC trustees are all unpaid volunteers, however we are able to reimburse reasonable out of pocket expenses.
We also have an annual Board away day that Chair and trustees would be encouraged to attend.
Trustees are elected to serve for a three year period. Treasurer can serve for a maximum of period of 2 terms (ie 6 years).
All Trustees must demonstrate:
1. A commitment to the organisation and its cause, demonstrating an understanding of the role of unpaid/family carers and the impact of this.
2. A willingness to devote the necessary time and effort.
3. Strategic vision.
4. Good, independent judgment.
5. An ability to think creatively.
6. A willingness to speak their mind.
7. An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship.
8. An ability to work effectively as a member of a team.
