Purpose of the job:
This is an asset based community development role, working across south Bristol to support the development of opportunities for older people to become active members of their communities.
We want this project to ensure older people feel equal and valued as citizens of South Bristol and are able to influence the things that matter to them. It should ensure that older people have accessible opportunities to be active, feel healthy, to learn, be included, have choice, and take risks.
The coronavirus pandemic has affected older people in a variety of ways with the Office for National statistics show that the wellbeing effects of coronavirus for older people are: being worried about the future; feeling stressed or anxious; and being bored. It also showed that older people were more likely to have difficulties accessing essential goods and services.
The Community Development worker will work with partners across South Bristol to focus on supporting older people to re-engage with their communities; and to build on these partnerships to develop a network that is able to support this population.
This opportunity is funded by St. Monica Trust for 3 years as part of a wider network of community development workers across the BNSSG area (Bristol, North Somerset, and South Gloucestershire). The worker will contribute to the monitoring, evaluation, and learning in relation to the wider project.
