Multi-Disciplinary Advocacy Opportunities

The Advocacy People
Starting salary £20,765 per annum (pro rata)
Contract Type:
Part Time
28 hrs, 2x zero hrs
South West
Details of Role:

At The Advocacy People we provide high quality, confidential, independent advocacy services, supporting clients in having a voice in the way they are cared for, the services they receive and decisions that are made about their lives.

Advocates work with clients to express their views, wishes and feelings, helping those who are particularly vulnerable and/or excluded to deal with issues which are important to them, ensuring they have a say in the services they receive.

We are looking to recruit a part time (28 hours) advocate and 2 zero hours/sessional advocates to work with people, many of whom will be vulnerable people living with, for example, Mental Health Issues, Learning Disabilities, Autism and Dementia either in the community, Care Homes or in hospital, ensuring their voices are heard about the things that are important to them and safeguarding their rights.

The part time post will be predominantly based in and around the Avon area. The sessional posts will be working flexibly across Avon, Wiltshire and Berkshire.

Consistency of performance in an environment where maintaining quality and standards is of the utmost importance. We are looking for someone resilient, approachable, methodical, self-disciplined, patient and diplomatic while providing empathy and understanding with clients and other stakeholders without compromising the independence of the advocacy role.

A working knowledge of Microsoft Office is essential.  You should have excellent verbal and written communication, listening and negotiation skills and be used to liaising with key stakeholders at a variety of levels.  A general understanding of the NHS Complaints Regulations, Mental Health Act, Mental Capacity Act, Care Act and Children’s Act, and experience working in health or social care would be beneficial.

A Level 3 Qualification in Advocacy would be beneficial, however full training and induction will be available; we provide all necessary supervision and support. Ultimately, we are looking for people that share our passion in making a difference in vulnerable peoples’ lives.

This role is home based so you will need a stable home broadband and have reliable mobile phone coverage.  It also involves regular travel within the Wessex region so access to your own transport is essential.*
