Bristol City Council invites community organisations and social enterprises to bid for vacant property

28 September, 2021

Bristol City Council is selling 6 West Street, a 3-storey building in a prominent and busy location in the Old Market area of Bristol. The building has previously been used as a café, art gallery, workshops and offices.

The property is being offered for sale exclusively to third sector organisations. Jon Bos, Property Partner (Neighbourhoods & Communities), said “The Council's intention is to sell the property to a community-based organisation, in line with the principles of the Community Right to Bid legislation." The Community Right to Bid, which is also know as Assets of Community Value, gives local people the chance to bid to buy, take over, and run assets that are of value to the community, such as shops, work spaces or other facilities.

The council will only invite interest from commercial bidders if no eligible community bids have been received by the closing date of 4 January 2022 and you can find more on the council website.
