Wesport, the sports charity that helps people to become more physically active and enjoy the benefits that an active lifestyle can bring, has launched the Sport England, Together Fund.  In partnership with Voscur, Wesport are distributing £380,000 to communities across the West of England.

We now know that particular groups were disproportionately affected by the pandemic and one of the negative impacts was a reduction in opportunity for certain communities' ability to be physically active. The Together Fund will support those groups to tackle the negative impact of the coronavirus and the widening inequalities within sport and physical activity.

In order to ensure the Together Fund reaches those who need it most, there are four priority groups:

  • Culturally diverse communities
  • People with disabilities
  • People with long-term health issues
  • People on low incomes.

We will be working with key VCSE partners in each of the unitary authority areas who have insight, experience and inroads into these communities. They are:

  • BANES 3rd Sector Group in Bath & North East Somerset
  • CVS South Gloucestershire in South Glos.
  • Voluntary Action North Somerset VANS in North Somerset.

Mark Hubbard, Interim CEO of Voscur says, "Voscur is delighted to continue our involvement in this work to support physical and mental health. Through 100+ grants and direct support provided by Voscur and partners, we have already helped many people keep active and well, and at the same time have supported community organisations to keep going through the pandemic during tough financial times. This next round of targeted funding will focus on facilitating the move from crisis to recovery.”
