Sandra Meadows  

Sandra Meadows
Chief Executive

Sandra is Voscur’s Chief Executive. She is a committed advocate for both the sector and the city which has been her home for the past 28 years.

Her background covers a variety of roles within the Bristol Corporate, Private and VCSE sectors including Marketing, HR, Business Development and Senior Management. In addition, Sandra is a member of the Bristol Mayoral Commission for Women, Bristol Race Equality Commission and has also served as a Voluntary Sector Advocate for Voscur, Chief Executive of PEYTU, a Governor within both Secondary and Further Education and has worked extensively in partnership with Bristol City Council.

A member of The Chartered Institute of Management and an Associate with the Centre for Mentoring and Coaching, Sandra also previously ran her own consultancy covering business and leadership coaching in the VCSE sector.

Sarah Pigott 
Delivery Manager 

Sarah's job is to ensure that the many contracts Voscur holds are delivered on time, efficiently and to the highest standards. She keeps tabs on Voscur's performance and provides appropriate, timely information and data to our board, funders and stakeholders.

Sarah has previously worked in Further Education as a college director and with international students as a programme director for an international foundation year. She has held senior management team posts for the past 15 years in education and the voluntary sectors and considers her specialisms to be performance management and quiet leadership.

Sarah has also taught organisational behaviour at UWE and is a qualified trainer and facilitator. She has been a foster carer and enjoys working with children and young people in particular. Her spare time is spent swimming, with children and cooking.

Mark Hubbard 
Head of Commissioning and Collaboration

Mark joined Voscur in 2010. He leads Voscur’s work with commissioners to help processes include community organisations so that they can win and deliver public service contracts. He also leads Voscur’s collaboration support to help VCSE organisations work together in partnerships and consortia. This includes advice and facilitated sessions, and responding strategically to opportunities.

Mark has worked in the public and voluntary sectors for 25 years, as an employee, trustee, volunteer and consultant. Areas of expertise are commissioning/procurement, partnership development and strategic planning.

Before joining Voscur, Mark worked in homelessness at Bristol City Council and as a consultant to the VCSE sector.

Sarah Jackson
Development Officer – Health and Social Care

Sarah joined Voscur in 2017 as Development Officer, Health and Social Care. Her role is to support voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) organisations working in the field of health and social care to take a strategic role in city-wide development of services for adults.

Sarah began her career in a commercial planning role and also worked as an academic researcher before moving into the voluntary sector 12 years ago. Since then she held project, research and development roles in a number of VCSE, academic and public sector organisations with a health and social care focus. She also has expertise in evaluation, strategic and operational planning and project management.

Sarah is always interested in hearing about new opportunities for learning, sharing and developing projects to ensure that voluntary sector organisations engage as effective and valued partners in the Bristol economy.

In her spare time, Sarah loves taking family walks along the South West Coastal Path that passes near her home.

Asma Ahmad
Children and Young People’s Network Co-ordinator

Asma facilitates a network of VCSE sector organisations that work with children, young people and families.  Asma leads on ensuring the sector has information and opportunities for influencing strategy, policy and services provision in this field.

Asma started work with a career as research assistant in Biochemistry and trained as a teacher.  Following a career change, Asma has worked in the public and voluntary sector,  particularly supporting marginalised groups and communities to access services. This has included managing projects and programmes in adult and community education, Sure Start, Extended Services, ESOL, Open College Network accreditation, and volunteer recruitment.

Asma likes to relax by experimenting with recipes and watching documentaries on science.

Becky Whitlock
Policy and Information Officer

Becky joined Voscur in 2015, as a member of our Voice and Influence team. This work involved supporting network coordinators, VCSE Advocates and Voscur’s early intervention manager. This role directly connected Becky with the sector, as well as local decision making bodies and she quickly realised that she relished working within a wider strategic context. This prompted her to apply for the newly-created Policy and Information Officer role in May 2017.

Becky believes that the VCSE sector should be a key influencer in the decision-making that affects its beneficiaries and its work. Her role contributes to this by keeping VCSE organisations up to date with changes in policy, both locally and nationally, and opportunities to bring about change by sharing its valuable insight.

Becky spends the rest of her week working as a fundraiser for another local charity. She has a degree in Social Anthropology and is a keen singer and cyclist.

Jennifer McMahon
Consortium Innovations Manager (Bristol Sexual Violence Services Consortium)

Jennifer coordinates the new innovations project for the Bristol Sexual Violence Consortium, grant-funded by Lloyds Bank Foundation. The project aims to develop sexual violence services in the city, including effective tools and best practice in client services. It will culminate in a toolkit for other UK services in the successful development of effective cross-sector consortia to promote collaboration and sustainability rather than fragmentation and competition.

Jennifer joined Voscur with previous experience in business development at Barnardo’s, including bid-writing, forming partnerships and project management, and currently studies Voluntary Sector Management at CASS Business School in London.

Outside of work, Jennifer volunteers and fundraises for charities that work in orphanages in Belarus or deliver more strategic work to eliminate institutionalisation of children.

Ruth Pitter    
Head of Inclusion 

Ruth has managed equalities related projects since she joined Voscur in 2002. She has worked local, regionally and nationally with a wide range groups and agencies to improve their practice. She currently manages ‘Bristol BME Voice’ which supports the Bristol Commission for Race Equality and is part of BEING a collective which brings together Bristol’s Equalities forums, she also manages our community outreach and inclusion work to increase access for groups so they can benefit from Voscur’s support and other local initiatives and activities.

Ruth has previously worked in housing support services, criminal justice, victim services and volunteering. She is driven by her desire to motivate people and groups. She believes that: if you do nothing out of the ordinary, nothing extraordinary ever happens.

Ruth is co-founder of ‘Breathing Fire’ Bristol Black Women’s Playback Theatre company, sings in two choirs, is an avid walker and ardent follower of professional tennis.

Meera Pandya
Community Outreach Worker

Meera is the Community Outreach Worker at Voscur. Seeking and meeting with groups, especially hard to reach and under-represented groups, to support their start-up, their sustainability and development through the support offered via Voscur’s team and other organisations in the area. She works Bristol Wide and through meeting groups in the different communities, Meera also communicates the needs, gaps, barriers, priorities, and successes to the relevant channels as well as linking organisations with similar missions in order to increase the opportunity of achieving their objectives.

Meera has previously worked for a local charity , a social enterprise and was teaching Business English to expatriates and their families who had moved to the area because of employment. She has been significantly involved with the Voluntary Sector in Bristol since she was a child.

Meera is Bristol-born and passionate about the development of the city where all communities are involved and given opportunities.

Charlene Lawrence   
Administrator (BME Voice & Influence)

Charlene provides support to the BME Voice and Influence service, and the Interim Commission for Race Equality, part of Voscur's work on social inclusion. Part of Charlene’s work is also to provide support for various projects.

She has worked in the voluntary sector for the past 10 years, and has been at Voscur for 6 and ½ years. Prior to Voscur she worked at the BME led organisation the Black Development Agency for 3 years. Before branching out into the Voluntary sector, Charlene worked in the private sector for HSBC Life.

Jenny Wildblood
Development Officer, Funding Lead

Jenny is Funding Lead at Voscur, supporting Bristol organisations with their income generation by providing 1-2-1 support, training and events that inform fundraising strategy, skills and information.

She’s also a professional fundraiser, consultant, and trainer working with a wide variety of clients to raise funds and increase their capacity to fundraise.

In a previous life she managed grant funds for several local and national Trusts, so she’s experienced the grant funding world from both sides. She’s Treasurer of two small charities and a volunteer Bookseller at a local Social Enterprise, Clevedon Community Bookshop, a role that combines several of her favourite things - reading, writing and chatting to interesting people.

Lorna Henry 
Development Officer - Governance

Lorna joined the Voscur team in September 2017. She works with organisations and community groups giving support to Trustees and Boards and senior staff so that organisations can foster effective leadership and governance.

Lorna has worked with and in the Bristol VCSE sector for many years as a researcher, trainer and consultant. She is committed to supporting the good work in the sector while acknowledging the difficult context. She has experience of setting up small arts organisations with a focus on developing creative skills. As a researcher, she committed to highlighting the perspectives of people using health and social care services.

Lorna also offers occasional workshops at University College London. In her spare time she takes part in Bristol's thriving creative scene, dances and plays the piano.

Jessie Langton
Partnerships and Skills Coordinator

Jessica is leading on Voscur’s programme of creating beneficial relationships between businesses and communities in Bristol. Jessica’s focus is matching professionally skilled volunteers to VSCE organisations and working with employers to develop their Employer Supported Skilled Volunteering initiatives. She is also able to help with improving volunteer management, advising on recruiting Board member’s and referring to pro bono services. Jessica has worked in delivery in the VCSE since 2007 with her early career focused in the Arts as a project and event manager.

An experienced project manager she has expertise in the brokerage of volunteering, best practice in volunteer management, event management, partnership management, community arts and arts delivery.

Jessica is interested in how our culture can become more sustainable and has recently completed a course with Bristol and Avon Wildlife Trust learning about community led agriculture and ecology. She volunteers at St. Werburgh’s City Farm and for Survival International.

David Whittaker
Business Development Manager

David joined Voscur in 2012. He works to increase and diversify Voscur’s income so we can provide free and independent support to the groups that need it most. This includes developing bespoke training and consultancy, grant and contract opportunities and delivery partnerships.

David’s worked in the public, private and voluntary sectors, and was Chair of Trustees at Brigstowe in Bristol for three years. His key areas of expertise are business planning, impact measurement and communications.

Before joining Voscur, David worked as a consultant and project manager in the software industry, and first got involved in social enterprise in the mountains of Papua New Guinea.

Vicky Redding

Vicky became Voscur’s Trainer in September 2016. She plans, designs and delivers a wide range of training courses for Voscur, including bespoke training for organisations. Vicky leads on delivering Voscur’s ‘Kick Start Your Organisation’ start-up support for new groups and social enterprises. Vicky believes that people learn best when they are having fun and she uses practical, participative methods to get people working together.

Vicky has extensive experience of community and organisational development, gained during 25 years working in and with the voluntary and community sector. She has worked for local and national charities and as a freelance consultant. She has expertise in governance, impact measurement and strategic planning.

Vicky is passionate about learning and volunteers as a governor at her local secondary school. She is an avid festival goer, combining her love of being outdoors with listening to live music.

Jessica Walker
Digital Engagement and Marketing Officer

Jess has coordinated all Voscur’s communications since 2012, driving increased engagement online, in print and on social media. She works to ensure all the local groups who could benefit from Voscur's services know how to get the support they need, and keep them up to date with information and research relevant to their work.

Previously, Jess has worked and volunteered for VDay, The Bristol Old Vic and Age UK Bristol. She’s motivated by using her communication skills to support the voluntary sector, and help tell compelling stories about the impact organisations create for local people.

Jess loves to work creatively and enjoys writing, graphic design and film making - both at work and in her spare time.

Lucy Fletcher  
Events and Training Coordinator

Lucy plans and manages Voscur's training and events. She works with all members of the delivery team to co-ordinate a comprehensive, high quality and fully accessible programme. She also manages the application and voting process for the "Voscurs", Bristol's Social Impact Awards, that take place annually.

Lucy has over 12 years’ experience of events management and has previously worked in events roles in the private sector and for another charitable organisation.

In her spare time, Lucy enjoys travelling, eating out and drinking prosecco!

Katie Finch 
Data Officer

Katie works to improve the quality of data Voscur holds and to create more efficient systems which are easy to use. She supports the rest of the team with database and CRM queries.

On her days off Katie runs her own organisation, Freedom of Mind, to promote mental health and emotional wellbeing through events. Previously she worked for another charity helping them with data issues, and before that she was a student at the University of Bristol. Katie enjoys being creative and spends a lot of her spare time knitting, crocheting and dressmaking! She campaigns on mental health and speaks openly about her own experiences, to break down stigma and increase awareness.

Active Together Project Coordinator

Clare coordinates the Active Together project, which is currently based at Age UK Bristol.  Active Together matches volunteers with people living with dementia and each pair goes out together regularly to participate in a shared interest/activity.

Clare has a background in volunteering, volunteer management and training.

Clare has also been a teacher of the Alexander Technique for the last twenty years.

Sui Lau
Finance Manager

Sui works as Voscur's Finance Manager, with responsibilities around reporting, budget monitoring and forecasting, payroll.

Sui is a qualified accountant with over 20 years financial experience, including financial accounting, management accounting and budget monitoring and control. She has worked in both the public and commercial sectors but has also spent many years working in education settings within the voluntary sector, working in organisations helping women suffering from domestic violence, and a centre providing services for the community.

Sophia McDonald-James 
Office Manager

Sophia was appointed the Office Manager in Oct 2017 with responsibility for Human Resources, Business Infastructure and the management of Voscur's back-office and Administration Team. She is part of the management team influencing Voscur's operational and strategic decisions.

Sophia previously worked in higher education and as a military officer whose area of expertise lies in finance, resource management and administration. She is an ardent supporter of VCSE and currently works two days per week as a volunteer providing client based services to vulnerable adults including the homeless in Bristol.

Ellie Hooper
Team Administrator (on maternity leave)

Ellie has been working at Voscur since July 2014. She joined Voscur as an Apprentice Events & Training Administrator whilst carrying out her Level 2 Business and Administration qualification.

In August 2015, after completing her Level 2, she went on to complete the Level 3. She is now Voscur’s Team Administrator, providing general administration support across the organisation with a main focus on supporting the Events & Training Co-ordinator, Lucy, with the upcoming Events and Training Programme.

Phoebe Westwood
Team Administrator

Phoebe joined Voscur in January 2018 as Team Administrator, covering maternity leave. She provides general administration across the organisation and supports Lucy, the Events & Training Co-ordinator.

Phoebe has a background in foreign languages and has gained experience in teaching, marketing, administration and book-keeping. She has travelled and volunteered abroad and is passionate about sustainability, human rights and animal rights.

Liz Gorman

Liz supports Voscur’s CEO and its board of trustees and is responsible for membership. She also provides more general administration across the organisation.

Prior to joining Voscur, Liz worked in administration roles at a Sure Start Programme in Tottenham, North London and at a psychotherapy service that works with people with learning difficulties who have experienced abuse or trauma. She has had a number of volunteer roles, including working as a teacher of English to migrant workers and as a befriender to a woman with severe and enduring mental health issues. Now that her children are older, she hopes to have more time to return to volunteering!

Outside work, Liz enjoys reading and trips to the seaside.

Louise Wearne
Administrator - Volunteering Services

Lou provides administrative support to the Boost! Volunteering Programme and the Volunteer Organisers’ Forum as well as to the Active Together and Sustain projects and some general administrative support across the organisation.

She has a background in Health & Social Care and more recently in information and signposting. She has been a volunteer in many roles including trustee for a Good Neighbours Scheme, a not-for-profit fair trade outlet and currently as an Information and Advice volunteer with Age UK South Gloucestershire. Lou also is a boarder for a trainee guide dog.
