Description of opportunity We are seeking HELPLINE VOLUNTEERS for our women only Helpline. We offer confidential listening support to any woman who is experiencing emotional distress. Women calls us about many issues including relationship problems, domestic and sexual abuse and mental health issues. We also offer information and signposting to other services provided by Womankind or other local agencies. Volunteers commit to one 3-hour Helpline shift per week once they have completed our comprehensive training programme. We currently have places on our next training course which will run over four weekends during February and March 2018. Skills/qualifications required - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and able to listen to others; - Be non-judgmental and able to empathise; - Punctual, patient, reliable; - Due to the nature of the calls we receive, volunteers need to be at a point in their lives where they are emotionally strong enough to support women in distress/crisis. - We welcome volunteers with lived experience of relevant issues - we ask you to think of the reality of listening to similar material to your own and consider what affect that might have on you. If you have recently been through a crisis we would recommend that you wait for 18 months – 2 years before taking on this role.

All training days run from 10am to 4pm, and you would need to be able to attend ALL four days, so please check that this is possible before applying.
