Details of Role: 

Volunteers with a keen interest in mental health sought to be advocates for adults living in the community with mental health difficulties to enable them to have a voice to help them resolve practical issues, gain their rights and get the services they need.  We are asking for a commitment of 4 - 6 hours a week (flexible - not in a block of time once a week but at different times throughout the week and different every week) for a minimum of one year once trained.  You may be needed to speak on behalf of someone at a meeting, make phone calls and write letters.  A lot of listening is involved.  The Outreach Service provides 3 levels of advocacy - at Drop-in Sessions, short term and more complex longer term advocacy - volunteers are expected to do all of these.  Training is given - starting on Wednesday 31st January 2018 for 8 Wednesdays 9.30am - 4pm.  Out of pocket expenses paid and supervision and support provided.  It is a challenging, rewarding and much needed role.

After this a written application form is required followed by a short interview.  Places will be allocated on a first come first served basis.


We are particuarly interested in applicants who have had experience of mental health  difficulties themselves and /or are unemployed and/or are from a Black or Minority Ethnic background.
