What does social value mean? How do commissioners design services to create it? And how do organisations work to build it with their clients and communities?

This toolkit aims to bring commissioners and organisations together to agree what social value means and how to create more of it locally.

A message from the young people on the Bristol Shadow Safeguarding Children Board:

"Dear teachers, support workers, engagement workers and youth workers

Please find attached letter regarding the ‘Our Opinion 2017’  City Wide BSCB Shadow Board survey.

We are asking that you support us in engaging all young people aged between 11-18 by asking them to provide us with their views on what safeguarding issues impact on them!

We are launching the survey on Tuesday 7 February 2017 which is Safer Internet Day.

Social Value has been described as a way to ‘level the playing field’ for Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) organisations in commissioning and procurement processes. The Act was due to be implemented from January 2013 – the reality is that it has been a bit patchy across the country.

During last year, discussions between Bristol Compact, Voscur, Bristol Clinical Commissioning Group and Bristol City Council led to a draft Bristol Social Value Policy. As a result of all the changes in the public sector, this work has been delayed and is now being taken forward.
