.We’re excited to take part in Bristol Doors Open Day again this year! All sorts of architectural gems across Bristol are opening their doors, from the Cathedral to BBC Bristol.

Here at Spike Island we are giving tours every hour for visitors to explore the WHOLE building, and discover how a tea packing factory was transformed into an art gallery with working spaces for artists and creatives.

The Tour of Britain cycle race is also happening on Saturday 10th (those that like cycling, this is Bradley Wiggins’ last professional race!) The roads around Spike Island are closed for the race, so it’s important that people can find Spike Island, and know they can come in and explore, for FREE!

  •  We need help with the following:
  • ·      Welcoming first time visitors!
  • ·         Encouraging people outside to come inside for a look around (especially those sat waiting for the race to come by)
  • ·         Taking photographs for sharing on Spike Island’s social media
  • ·         Assistance our tour guides as they lead groups around the building

Any help would be greatly appreciated, it’s going to be a bustling and fun weekend! Please email volunteer@spikeisland.org.uk  to confirm if you are interested in any of the above and any other regular volunteer opportunities

If you would like to volunteer and help us to welcome new visitors to Spike Island, please email volunteer@spikeisland.org.uk or call 0117 929 2266.

Making a difference
SISH, a local Bristol charity, facilitate self-help support groups for women and men, run monthly open access wellbeing workshops, run peer led courses for people who want to 'Make Changes' and build a different relationship to self-harm and also deliver training.
We are involved in evaluating and improving local services used by people who self-harm and want to make a difference to the support on offer. For example, we are currently involved with the Accident and Emergency departments in Bristol in improving the services and support offered to people who self-harm. As part of this we are trying to get as many people as possible who have personal experience of self-harm involved and have a voice, in whatever way works for each person. This could be commenting (by post, email, Skype, phone, or in person) on work we are developing such as an experience led A&E resource leaflet or training of A&E staff, coming along to meetings, being part of peer led training, sharing experiences and views. Involvement can be very fluid, depending upon a persons needs. However any contributions, big or small, all help to make a difference.
If you would like to contribute or would like further information, please contact Lisa at sishbristol@gmail.co.uk or leave a  message on 0117 230 8230. Thank you.

If you have a few moments, it would be greatly appreciated if you could participate in this short survey and/or distribute it to your networks.  As you know it is crucial for us to understand the impact of our work and ensure we are supporting the membership effectively.

We also need to be able to demonstrate to funders where we have most impact and how we can improve. Your views also help us shape our future work and priorities, so please do take to let us know what you think.

Please complete the survey before the 17th November
Do share this with colleagues and interested parties

Office Space Needed!

I work for a Ex-Offender led Charity called User Voice and am trying to help the young people subject to the Youth Offending Team by creating a ‘Service User Council’ that will allow them to have a say in how the service is delivered.  We will also train and help support the young people into a better way of life.

This will have the duel effect of empowering the young people involved whilst improving the YOT service for all that come after.

The one thing that I am really struggling with is finding office space. As a non-profit Charity our budget is almost non-existent.

Does anyone have a spare office we could use in Bristol?

Please contact me for more information.
