Contract Type:

Details of Role:

We are looking for chef training mentors to support our 12-week cookery class teacher training programme in Bristol.

We will be taking 6 Bristol-based migrants on a journey from passionate home cooks to confident cookery class teachers. Every training session culminates in a practice cookery class. We focus on self-development through weekly workshops, improving well-being, confidence, leadership skills and spoken English.

As a mentor, you can expect to support your mentee 1:1 in developing and writing down their recipes, shopping & equipment lists, class plans, structuring bios for the Migrateful website, supporting completion of a Food Hygiene Level 2 qualification, facilitating practice classes, washing up and getting stuck in with other ad hoc tasks like shopping for ingredients, and of course eating delicious food from all over the world!

Our training programme will be 2 days per week, Mondays and Thursdays (with some additional days for some mentors, see below), running from Monday 3rd June / Thursday 6th June for 11 weeks, until Monday 12 August (with end of training celebration on the 19th August).

The training is held across two venues, Mondays at Coexist Community Kitchen, Mivart Street Studios, BS5 6JF and Thursdays at The Mazi Project, Dalby Avenue, BS3 4DJ.

To maintain consistency for the programme and build rapport between mentors and the training cohort, each mentor will be paired with a mentee for 1 on 1 support. While we don’t expect you to attend every training session, there are specific sessions we would need you to commit to in order to support your mentee in completing their class documents (recipes, class plans, biographies, etc.) and practicing their classes. Some of the recipe testing days will be on a Tuesday and Wednesday. On occasion, support outside the training times will be needed, usually in the form of writing up and sending ingredient lists to the group, or buying ingredients ahead of your mentee’s practice class. Ideal minimum commitment is 10 days. Core workshops will be 3-20 June, following which Mentors will attend recipe testing days and practices classes for thier mentees. Please get in touch to discuss availability.
