Details of Role: 

We are a south Bristol youth project; looking for paid adults to mentor young people within their communities on a 1-to-1, weekly basis. We work with young people aged 8-18 years, prioritising those who are disengaged from school, socially isolated or experiencing poor mental health.

Aims of mentoring:

  • To build up supportive, trusting relationships
  • To provide positive role models
  • To set goals to improve wellbeing and self-esteem
  • To try new activities and having fun together
  • To engage with the local community

We will provide:

  • Induction & ongoing support for the role, including safeguarding, Support from our coordinator throughout your mentoring journey, with a one-to-one supervision every 12 weeks
  • Reimbursement of volunteering expenses, weekly (volunteers only)
  • A reference for job/volunteering applications

You will gain:

  • Experience in supporting young people to identify/work towards goals.
  • Experience working with people from many different backgrounds
  • Skills in active listening, advocacy, mentoring and goal-setting

 What we expect from you:

  • Full commitment to mandatory safeguarding training, weekly mentoring sessions and providing feedback on sessions/goal-setting to the mentoring co-ordinator
  • Positive representation of Youth Moves promoting equal opportunities and respect
  • Compliance with all policies, including maintaining appropriate boundaries
  • Excellent communication with us throughout – including re-arranging sessions, changes to your personal circumstances, safeguarding issues.
  • Reliable commitment to your mentee
  • Attendance at your supervision every 12 weeks
