Why attend?

The current Covid 19 and political context has recently added additional pressures for colleagues and organisations already engaged in rewarding but often challenging work. We have noticed that now more than ever, organisations are seeking to set up reflective spaces for staff to connect with each other, to reflect, seek solutions and bring in a range of perspectives to their work in a safe and structured way.

Consequently, to support partners to respond to this need, we have put together a condensed training package to help organisations develop and expand reflective practice.

Reflective Practice is increasingly recognised as a critical tool in the learning and development of teams and organisations and colleague wellbeing. Used widely by teams who work with people: in teaching, nursing, social care settings, and homelessness services - it has become recognised as best practice in developing safe and forward thinking services. It is particularly helpful for organisations that manage complexity in fast-paced environments, which often require decisions to be made in the moment.

What will you get out of this?

  • Understand what reflective practice is and isn’t
  • Understand the benefits and evidence base for reflective practice in organisations
  • Have an awareness of different models used; facilitator selection, training and support; potential costs & how to make reflective practice sustainable
  • Understand the importance of group membership, focus, session logistics (including virtual groups), accountability and group contracts
  • An understanding of some of the challenges involved in setting up reflective practice and gain ideas in how to approach some of these
  • Increase knowledge about different ways to review and evaluate reflective practice

Feedback on the training

"The workshops over-met my expectations, as I had not expected it to provide such an opportunity to drive the development of RP in my organisation and how this fits into the development of a PIE framework."

"All of the above has enabled me to create an action plan around developing RP. Useful to consider how RP sessions need to fit with our ethos and values and how it fits into our broader framework."

"Making RP sustainable and resource / time required to meaningfully lead & embed was really useful."

"This training has come out at the perfect time, as we are currently developing our PIE framework. I had felt a bit stuck in the process and this training has given me clarity around how to move forward. Also very useful to build links with Dawn and Michelle who have been very helpful in sharing knowledge and advice. I highly recommend this training for anyone who is keen to develop RP and understand how this fits into creating and building a trauma-informed service."

What 1625ip’s colleagues say about the positives of RP

“It helps me to consider alternative perspectives, ones that I might not have thought about previously”

“The staff can be great at thinking outside of the box to approach a problem"

“ I do find RP extremely valuable nonetheless [despite not providing direct support]… I think reflection is an important part of learning and developing in general”

“I think that I find RP more valuable as broader reflective tool around the culture and practice of the organisation rather than specifically offering me useful support in my role”
