Safeguarding is in the spotlight for charities. Recently the government has, in effect, broadened the scope of what it considers ‘safeguarding’ in the charity sector to include not only children and vulnerable adults, but also the duty of care charities have to other groups that they come into contact with: their staff and volunteers; beneficiaries; and those who live and work where the charity operates.

In this context it is essential that charities review how suitable and effective their safeguarding policies and processes are and also how robust wider policies related to staff and beneficiary safety are (for example, HR and whistleblowing policies).

This lunchtime briefing for charity leaders (senior staff and trustees/directors) will help you think through what you need to do to ensure that your charity has a culture that places beneficiaries and safeguarding at the heart of your work, together with training and effective policies and procedures to manage incidents appropriately, if and when they arise.
