What is this course about?

This is a practical session on how to assess your organisation's approach to equality, access and inclusion. We will go through some practical steps, reflecting on your recent work through COVID-19, then look at addressing inequality at a structural level and creating change in your organisation.

This is not a tick box exercise - it's a real commitment to continue the conversation and work in your organisation to create real and lasting change.

The trainer

Stephanie Champion is a freelance trainer specialising in equality and diversity. With a background in youth and community work, she has 15 years' experience working with equalities organisations both in Bristol and Manchester. Stephanie has developed an equality, access and inclusion audit tool.

Why is the course relevant now?

The events of 2020 (such as Black Lives Matter and COVID-19) highlighted the impact of inequality in society, and the structures that keep inequality in place.

Individual organisations can't change systems on their own, but they can start by working to ensure their own practices are as equal and inclusive as possible.

By starting to identify and eliminate barriers to equality, then put in place the measures that create and promote equity, organisations can contribute to the wider change and lead by example.

What else do you need to know?

You must have an understanding of the Equalities Act 2010 and a commitment to equalities and change in your organisation.

Whilst we will take a practical approach to diversity and inclusion auditing, please be aware that there may be people in your organisation who need to be involved in the process but are unable to attend the training. You must be committed to continue the process outside the session.

To take part you will need a laptop with a camera, microphone, and Wi-Fi. You won't need any additional software. You will be emailed an invitation with a link to join the online training prior to the course. Voscur is running all our training online due to the ongoing public health situation with coronavirus (or COVID-19). This decision was taken in line with local and national health advice, and to safeguard the health of our attendees and staff. We are aware that many VCSE organisations in the city are focusing their efforts on providing and changing their services to respond to communities. For more information about coronavirus, see https://www.voscur.org/content/covid19-service-users.

Cancellations:

If you cancel your place on a paid training course, you will need to give at least two weeks' notice, in which case a full refund or credit note will be issued. Less than two weeks' notice will result in the full cost of the course being invoiced (not refunded or credited), unless you can give the place to somebody else. If the place is transferred to someone else, there may be an adjustment on the payment or fee, depending on their/their organisation's membership status.

If you have been offered a free place, or the training you have booked is a free session, we still ask that you give at least two weeks' notice of cancellation. You may prefer to send someone else in your place; this is allowed, but please email training@voscur.org to let us know the name, email and contact phone number for the person replacing you. As mentioned above, there may be an adjustment on the payment or fee, depending on their/their organisation's membership status.

Should you fail to cancel your booking with two weeks' notice and fail to attend (and are unable to send someone in your place), an admin fee of £25 will be charged; we will invoice you/your organisation.
