What is this course about?

Conflict can be useful. It can challenge our outdated or limited view of ways of working or expand our understanding of the world. It can be creative and help us to develop and adapt to new ways of working, or achieve change to something better. During conflicts we can learn about ourselves as well as other people, find skills and resources that we didn’t realise we had, or develop new ones.

What will you learn?

This course will help you:

  • Identify your approach to conflict
  • Understand how conflicts arise and how to recognise them early
  • Have an overview of different approaches to conflict resolution and mediation
  • Practice skills that enable diverse views to be expressed
  • Apply strategies for resolving conflicts

Why is this relevant or important now?

When teams are under pressure, such as during the current pandemic, differences of opinion, different approaches and different ways of coping with change and uncertainty – all areas of potentially major or minor conflict - are almost inevitable.

The impact of conflict on some individuals can be debilitating – for others liberating. The same goes for organisations – depending how conflict comes about and is managed.

Understanding how you as an individual deal with conflict, and how your team and organisation as a whole understands its differences, can help you steer through both present challenges and harness the energy of conflict for positive development.
