BIG is an important source of funding to many Bristol based VCS groups. The Government has recently opened a 12-week consultation on proposed new policy directions for the Big Lottery Fund.

The Big Lottery Fund, which was set up in 2004, is the largest distributor of funding from the National Lottery to good causes and aims to bring real improvements to communities, and to the lives of people most in need.
The consultation invites views from a wide range of stakeholders which include the voluntary, community and social enterprise sector and other government departments.
Policy responsibility of BIG has been recently transferred from the Department of Media, Culture and Sport to the Cabinet Office.  Minister for the Cabinet Office Francis Maude said it was about "putting more power in people's hands, opening up public services and encouraging social action".

The consultation closes at midnight on Friday 18 November 2011.
