News items are standalone content usually linking to an external website or new content on a page on the website.

When creating a news story there are several items to remember

1) pick content type "Story" to create a news item, this enables us to categorise differnt types of content for different views

2) In the Vocabularies section choose type News, this is useed to identify stories for adding to the "What's New" section

3) Topic/Keywords, this can be used for further categorisation in Views but more importantly makes sercahing for content easier for users. Choose up to 3 keywords that you think you might find useful in searching for the content.

4) Please don't cut and paste from anything other than notepad. Some Microsoft text formatting, although not visible will always be pasted in and can prevent proper display of the page for our users.

5) When in Teaser view the website software displays the first 400 charcaters of an article. If you wish to include a picture in your news article it's best to embed it after the initail paragraph, or the picture will be the only thing viewable in the teaser (on the News page for instance http://www.voscur.org/news )

6) Most important of all is to complete the URL path settings. We have a "view" that is now added to any  page that has an URL in the format www.voscur.org/news/* . If the URL is not in this format then the View will not appear. For an example save your News item as node/* initailly and then change it to the correct url and note the change in the appearnace.
