What’s involved?:

You’ll work within a team of volunteers with supervision from a role manager to deliver a group enabling people living with dementia to participate in activities and to meet others in a relaxed, supportive environment. Our volunteers help us with setting up venues, welcoming attendees, making tea and coffee, as well as supporting people living with dementia and their carers to participate in our groups.

We currently offer Memory Cafes, Activity Groups and Singing for the Brain sessions. Our groups run on Tuesdays in Withywood and Friday afternoons in Fishponds. In the coming months, we hope to reopen more groups in Bristol, starting with Brislington on Wednesdays, and look forward to welcoming more volunteers to our team.

About you:

This role will suit you if you are friendly and caring with good verbal communication skills. You'll enjoy meeting new people and be willing to learn about dementia and the impact it has on people affected by it.

The impact you’ll make:

You’ll enable people affected by dementia to participate in a variety of meaningful activities in a social setting, from chatting and sharing memories or talking about current affairs. Your support at the group will aim to reduce social isolation and contribute to the wellbeing of people affected by dementia.

What you need to know:

We need to ensure that people living with dementia who benefit from our services are safe. In order for us to do this we interview, check and train our volunteers in on-going roles. If you have accessibility need we’ll make reasonable adjustments to enable you to volunteer. We welcome volunteers from all backgrounds, communities and experiences. We will make you feel welcome, included and respected because together we are united.
