Details of Role:
Volunteer Administrators provide essential and varied support to one or more of the Womankind services. Volunteers complete traditional office tasks as well as assisting on larger one-off projects, and gain experience in a range of areas across the charity.

Training:

Depending on the needs of the Womankind office, and your interests/experience, as a new administration volunteer you will typically be allocated to a service or area of the charity and then work closely with that service coordinator or area lead. That manager will provide a thorough induction into the charity, explaining the needs of their role/service, and together you would agree what your responsibilities will be, and when and how often you will volunteer.

This role is dynamic and further training will be provided ad hoc on an ongoing basis, allowing you to continually develop your skills and understanding of women’s mental health services and the charity sector for as long as you volunteer for us.

The Role:

You will be working in the office alongside our friendly and supportive team. Services which require volunteer support include the helpline and webchat service, the befriending service, and the remote befriending service. Other staff who may need volunteer support include the fundraiser, administrators, and business manager. Depending on the existing needs of the business, you may be asked to support in one or more of these areas.

Currently, we require a volunteer to support Emily who runs the Remote Befriending Service.

General office tasks include typing, filing and photocopying. Additional tasks may include taking and passing on messages, sending and responding to e-mails, completing small research tasks, and keeping our information systems up to date.

You:

You will be passionate about the work of Womankind, committed to our values, and enthusiastic about helping us to deliver our services. You will have comprehensive IT skills, and be confident using Microsoft Office (particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook). You will be a good communicator, both spoken and written, and be confident following instructions as well as using your own initiative when appropriate.

You will be available to attend the office in-person during office hours once per week. We require a minimum commitment of one year.

We welcome volunteers with personal experience of mental health and other relevant issues. However, volunteering for Womankind means you may sometimes be exposed to difficult and sensitive topics while completing some tasks or while working in the office. We therefore ask that you considered whether you feel emotionally robust and resilient enough to take on this role and that you discuss this with us if you are invited to interview.

What Past Volunteers Say:

“Volunteering with Womankind has been so rewarding both for my personal growth and for giving me experience working in frontline service provision. I have been given opportunities to ask questions and offer my existing skills, and the trust to complete important tasks which benefit the women that Womankind supports.”
