“Befriending is the simple act of giving your time to someone who needs support and friendship, to be someone they know is there for them without expecting payment or a return of favour.” Age UK South Gloucestershire offers a befriending service to older people in the county who are isolated and lonely, and in need of a friendly person to come to visit them or offer a weekly phone call. The role could involve you having a cup of tea and a chat, or could be focused on a hobby or interest the service user may have for example; puzzles, card games, knitting or model making. By volunteering regularly, it can make a big difference to someone’s life and help alleviate feelings of loneliness and isolation.
