Empowering and supporting students to shape their academic experience – could you be our new Academic Representation Co-Ordinator?

We’re looking for someone with the passion to support students to shape and get the most out of their university experience. In partnership with Bristol University, Bristol SU supports an academic representation system of over 900 student representatives. Academic representation and student voice is the bedrock of why Bristol Students’ Union exists and we’re really proud of what we do for students, empowering them to shape and enhance their academic experience.

As part of our Academic Representation Team, you'll shape structures and processes to ensure we offer impactful student representation to influence the academic experience at Bristol. The current structures for academic representation are working, but at Bristol we're interested in challenging ourselves to do more. You’ll be excited to be creative around academic representation and work with the team to re-think our approach. At Bristol, we’re up for radical change, and this is an area where we’d like to do something new.

If you’re successful, you’ll provide direct support to student representatives and relevant university staff in order to maximise the effectiveness and impact of Bristol SU’s academic representation. You will support student-led work on educational issues affecting undergraduate and postgraduate students such learning spaces, assessment, industrial action, academic and wellbeing support and more. You’ll also support our student leaders, particularly our full-time education officers and part-time faculty representatives, to develop confidence and skills to influence and make change.

You don’t have to have worked in higher education or in a students’ union before to be great at this role. You’ll need to have a strong understanding of representative structures and supporting, empowering and developing volunteers. You’ll be enthusiastic to deliver dynamic training to student leaders and you’ll be good at creating accessible briefings and guides for a volunteer audience.

Our team isn’t as representative of our student body as we’d like it to be so we’re particularly keen to hear from you if you’re Black, disabled, transgender, working class or have any other marginalised experience. It’s important to us that we diversify our team and that students see themselves represented here.

If you want to know more about our team or our approach to inclusion, or you’re wondering whether you’d be right for this role, please get in touch via email to: bristolsu-people@bristol.ac.uk
