JOIN OUR WORK TO SUPPORT COMMUNITIES TO THRIVE

* Invitation: Come for a chat and a tour of the site at 6:30pm on Wednesday 13th March*

Is success for you to see children and young people flourishing? Do you have extensive experience of working with these age groups? Are you enthusiastic about planning and delivering a diverse range of activities for families in Southmead? If so, we want to meet you.

We believe that every local young person should have the opportunity to thrive, and we have been investing in and growing all our work with young people. With Youth Investment Funds it’s a very exciting time to lead our open access Youth & Play programme at The Ranch (Southmead Adventure Playground). We are enhancing The Ranch site, as well as refurbishing one of our run-down buildings to create a brand new wellbeing hub for Children and Young People.

Our open access work sits within a wider holistic offer of one-to-one and small group services, sports, specialist provision, and community development. As our new Youth and Play manager you will work with a fantastic and dedicated team of colleagues and partners all committed to achieving outcomes for young people.

ABOUT US:

Southmead Development Trust is one of Bristol’s leading, independent, community led organisations. We are a multi-purpose charity providing much needed services for all ages and ethnicities to achieve a thriving community and improve health, wellbeing, local pride, and employment. Our two sites (Greenway Centre and Southmead Adventure Playground) are much-loved local venues that provide inspiring spaces for a wide variety of experiences, including sporting events, local groups, festivals and much more.

ABOUT YOU:

  • 3 years + experience of working with Children and Young People and the legislation and safeguarding responsibilities around this.
  • Qualified in Youth Work (JNC Qualified, working towards it or willing to complete it within your work with us).
  • Experience of line management.
  • Creative and ideas driven, with experience of planning and delivering a range of community-based youth or play programmes.
  • Excellent inter-personal skills with the ability to relate to and build strong relationships.
  • Knowledge and understanding of individual issues facing young people.
  • Energetic and outgoing, committed to creating innovative, sustainable, and high-quality opportunities for Children and Young People.

ABOUT THE ROLE:

  • You will oversee the delivery of safe, vibrant, and inclusive open access youth and play activities throughout the week and during school holidays.
  • You will coordinate, manage, and supervise a team of approximately 5-7 youth and play workers, and a wider team of volunteers and partners who support our sessions.
  • You will work creatively with colleagues and partners to develop and enhance the programme to offer our local families the very best and widest support experience possible. This will include liaising closely with colleagues to develop our new wellbeing hub and services.
  • You will work alongside our young leaders and parents’ group to support community leadership across our programmes, developing opportunities for social action or volunteering.
  • You will seek continual improvement in the overall outcomes for children and young people, advocating for their needs and bringing in or linking to specialist support to drive continual improvement (e.g. one to one sessions, professional supervision, training, sports, and arts).
