Job Purpose

  • To drive any vehicle allocated in a careful, lawful manner with special reference to the persons and equipment being carried.
  • To support LPW with transport of students that are being educated around the city.

In this role, your primary areas of responsibility will be:

  • Transport of children, including those with mobility problems or severe/moderate learning difficulties to and from school or other authorised locations.
  • Any other duties that may be required from time to time.
  • To ensure the good behaviour of children on the bus where practicable and to report any behaviour incidents to the Service Manager or such other person designated by him/her to deputise on his/her behalf.
  • To ensure, as far as possible, that scheduled timings are observed and to keep a detailed record of journeys, fuel issues, oil, servicing, and repair work on the vehicle log/mileage sheet.
  • To carry out routine vehicle maintenance including but not limited to the checking of fuel, oil and water levels, tyre pressures and topping up as required.
  • To ensure the safe custody of all spare parts, tools, articles, equipment, or other goods carried in the vehicle or under his/her immediate control whether the property of LPW or otherwise.

What you will bring to this role:

Experience, Skills and Qualities:

  • Hold a full category B manual licence.
  • MIDAS qualification (or be willing to take the necessary tests).
  • Working within a similar role either paid or voluntary.
  • A minimum of 1 years’ experience of driving a bus (i.e. 17 seat vehicle and above).
  • Good working knowledge of health and safety legislation.
  • Good working knowledge of the Highway Code.
  • Able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Willing to work as a member of a team.
  • Good interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate well with adults and young adults.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Good time management skills.
  • Value and respect the views and needs of children and young people.
  • Appropriate DBS clearance (before the post is taken up).
  • Willingness to provide a ‘DVLA Check Code’ for the purposes of a licence check annually and/or as required for hire vehicles.
