The Bristol Benevolent Institution is a Bristol-based endowed charity, founded over 150 years ago.
We provide companionship and support to the elderly in need through visits and recurring and one-off grants. We have around 350 beneficiaries and each year we make over 800 beneficiary visits, and from our investment income we distribute £500k to £600k of grants. We operate across the BS postcodes.
The charity is managed by our Secretary, Paula Robinson, who leads our team of visitors, who support our beneficiaries.
We are looking to recruit more Trustees to support our work and our team. In particular, we are looking for trustees with backgrounds in:
Care of the elderly and adult social care, Poverty Relief, Social housing, Accounting and Investment Management, Law and HR
But anyone with an interest in the work we do is welcome to apply. No prior trustee experience is needed.
We hold 4 quarterly meetings a year at the Create Centre in Bristol (about 2 hours starting at 4:30pm), with a further 4 meetings for the Finance Committee, and other minor ad-hoc commitments depend on circumstances and the skills you can bring to support the team.
If you would like to know more about the role, have an informal discussion or apply, please contact Paula Robinson at trustees@bristolbenevolent.org
