Hours:                    25 hours per week (Monday to Friday, morning and afternoon shifts)

Pay:                        £22,369 (FTE)

Contract:                Fixed term contract until 31st March 2024

Location:               Mothers for Mothers, New Fulford Family Centre, 237-239 Gate House Avenue, Bristol BS13 9AQ

Some working from home may be agreed.  

Reporting to:         Chief Executive Officer 

Accountable to:     Board of Trustees

Purpose of the role:

To provide peer support by operation of the helpline per the weekly rota and make support calls.  Take and make calls as part of the telephone support service, listening to clients and supporters on the telephone, completing and following up any referrals from clients or health professionals. To provide peer support as part of the peer support group team in Hartcliffe and Bedminster.

The post holder will:

  • Be a peer support worker in the Mothers for Mothers services
  • Assist with the development and implementation of the peer support services
  • Publicise the peer support service across Bristol and South Gloucestershire and North Somerset
  • Liaise with other mental health service providers (and GPs, Midwives, Health Visitors) to ensure women and families receive appropriate services
  • Demonstrate an ability to empathise, encourage and support women towards recovery
  • Signpost other organisations that may be of benefit to service users
  • Support and be in regular contact with mothers using our services.
  • Promote Mothers for Mothers services to women during activities, as appropriate
  • Collect and collate data from evaluation forms and prepare reports
  • Work in close collaboration with Mothers for Mothers colleagues in the development of services to act in the best interests of Mothers for Mothers at all times  

Essential Requirement:

  • It is essential that the post holder has a recovered lived experience of Perinatal Illness. 
  • This post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
