You are invited to Taking Action on Race Inequality round table event to be held on Thursday 28th September, 11.00am - 1pm at City Hall, College Green, Bristol. This is a partnership event between Black Training & Enterprise Group (BTEG) and Interim Commission for Race Equality to launch and discuss national and local data on racial disparity.

Nationally, BTEG, is proposing to establish a shared platform to link and support organisations that are taking action on race inequality in the UK.

The shared platform vision

Our vision is to establish a platform which will enable organisations, communities and individuals to make effective use of the data generated by the Government’s new Race Disparity Unit http://bit.ly/2bnKY1a (due to launch in September 2017). The shared platform will be a mechanism for bringing greater focus on practical actions to close race disparities, sharing these across the race equality sector, and reaching beyond the sector to encourage others to take action to close race disparity gaps within their agencies, communities, sectors and institutions.

Locally, the Race Equality Leaders Group, a strategic partner to the Interim Commission for Race Equality has been active in establishing data sets from key public sector bodies in the city to gain a better understanding of racial inequality in order to develop effective interventions for addressing areas of concern. Chair, Alison Comley, Strategic Director Bristol City Council will launch these data and share what action is being taken by both the Council and other public sector bodies across the city.

We will also be joined by Mayor, Marvin Rees and Jeremy Crook, Director of BTEG to further discuss policy interventions needed to reduce racial disparity across all policy areas in the city.

We want to hear from everyone who thinks that taking action to end racial inequalities is their business, including race equality organisations, voluntary and community groups, public sector agencies, private sector companies and individual.

We want to hear your views on…..

  • Whether this proposal will help organisations, individuals and communities to take effective action on racial inequality…
  • What key policy interventions are needed to reduce racial disparity
  • Whether there might be other, more effective ways that race equality organisations, public sector bodies and private sector can work together, and with local communities, to take action on race inequality…..

The event is hosted by Black South West Network
