Are you worried about a key worker's mental health during the pandemic? Whether they are a medical professional, a teacher, a care worker or a postal worker, there's help available. The initiative Our Frontline offers one-to-one support and resources to look after mental health, providing 24/7 support to health, care, emergency, education and key workers.

Developed as a partnership between Shout, Samaritans, Mind, Hospice UK and The Royal Foundation of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the initiative is a response to growing concerns around mental health as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

Our Frontline's website offers dedicated support for employees tailored to the sector they work in. You'll find details of phone and text services for each sector, as well as toolkits for coping with stress, information on wellbeing apps and blogs from people working in each sector.

For anyone living in the region that isn’t a frontline or keyworker but needs support, you can use 24/7 Support and Connect, a free NHS-funded helpline for people who live in Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire. The service, provided by Vita Health Group, means people in need can speak to experienced counsellors. Translators are available to those without English as a first language.

Other mental health resources you may find useful:

  • Bristol's Community Access Support Service (CASS) has a range of material, such as videos, booklets and informal sessions with your local CASS Networker.
  • Thrive Bristol has free online mental health sessions for people in the voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) sector, on topics such as communication skills, self-harm and suicide, and bereavement. To book closed sessions for your organisation, email thrive.bristol@bristol.gov.uk
  • Bristol Mind has extended its free counselling service for people shielding during the pandemic. This service now runs until 31 March.
