Choosing and registering a structure for your group

Choosing the structure

There are a number of different structures available for voluntary, community and social enterprise organisations to use. This table (see attachment below) provides a useful summary of these legal structures and how they are governed and regulated which should help you choose the most appropriate one for your group.

Creating a constitution

If you want to start running a small group, or move your current informal group on to becoming more organised, you’ll need a constitution that sets out how you will work. This template will give you a basic set of rules for how you run decision-making, membership and finance. Once you’ve used it to produce your constitution you will then be eligible to apply for grants from some funders.
