Independent Monitoring Board (IMB)

IMB members are unpaid volunteers appointed by the Ministry of Justice to monitor day to day life in prisons and ensure that proper standards of care and decency are maintained.
The team of 13 members visit Eastwood Park Women's Prison on a weekly rota. After a period of training IMB members visit the prison unannounced and are issued with keys at the main gate. IMB members have access to most areas and weekly rota visit reports are prepared. Any issues raised are discussed with the Governor at the board's monthly meeting.
The board prepares an annual report which is submitted to the Secretary of State for Justice.
