We deliver a wide range of services which engage public, voluntary, and business
sectors in the establishment of our community hub. The hub is at the heart of the local
community which is recognised by others by our clear understanding and support of
local issues and awareness of community needs. We work with families in an integrated
and holistic way providing a range of activities that support children, parents/carers, and
the wider community through the social and economic pressures they experience. Our
comprehensive programmes vary from adult learning, food education including cooking
classes for all the family, support sessions, day trips and much more.
During last year, we carried out a cooking club for adults to instil confidence and to give
them the opportunity to learn key skills. We know this will benefit them personally in their
day-to-day life as well as give them transferrable skills to a job as all of them were
unemployed at the time. We also took 206 people on a trip to a Safari Park; most of the
families are on Free School Meals and the feedback proved how much of a difference it
made "seeing my child's face light up was breath-taking".
We also run a programme called the Mini Police which is in partnership with Avon and
Somerset Police. This allows young people within our community to take part in a
yearlong programme learning about what it is like to work within the Police. This builds
positive relationships with the Police, as sadly lots of the involvement the community
have with the Police, has resulted in the children perceiving them negatively as it is
usually a result of events e.g., domestic violence. This also gives children the chance to
engage within the community and build future aspirations which are vital.
