Milestones Trust support people with learning disabilities, mental health needs and dementia in the Bristol area to live as they choose. Our person-centred services include residential and nursing care homes, day services, home care and supported living.
Milestones Trust co-ordinate a cycle scheme called Warmley Wheelers, which is open to the service users of Milestones Trust and the general public. The scheme gives everyone the chance to get into cycling and it enables those who have additional needs to feel the excitement and empowerment of using a specially adapted bicycle.
We are looking for volunteers to assist the project co-ordinator by helping to maintain the bikes and have an active part in fitting service users with appropriate safety attire.
The volunteers role will involve:
• Working as part of a team with the project co-ordinator and other wheelers assistants.
• Fitting service users with helmets and supporting them to get onto the bikes.
• To have a good understanding of the bikes and who they might be suited to.
• Cleaning bikes and changing tyres.
An induction and full support will be given by the project co-ordinator and volunteers will be mentored and coached about the scheme and what they will be expected and required to do.
Warmley Wheelers is based next to Warmley Waiting Room Café by the cycle path. The sessions run Wednesdays, Thursdays and the first Saturday of the month from 11am-3pm. There is also drop in sessions on Fridays from 11am-1pm.
We are very flexible for when you volunteer whether it is monthly, weekly or more, but you will need to be available on a day/time specified above and we ask for a 6 month commitment.
If this sounds like something you would like to get involved in please get in touch, we would love to hear from you.
