Following the very positive meeting focused on SEND in the summer, to further discuss the ideas raised  by the enthusiastic organisations involved, this follow up meeting will focus on:

Personal Budgets for disabled children and their families: How does it work, how can the sector respond to/ support this going forward?
Wikkis: multimedia approaches to self advocacy for disabled children and young people: how they work, how can short breaks and other service/ advocacy  providers get involved?

The Volunteer Organisers' Forum is used to promote and share best practice for those managing or co-ordinating volunteers.  We currently meet quarterly to discuss a variety of issues relevant to volunteering such as volunteer recruitment, employability, DBS checks, volunteer retention, thank you events, welfare reform impacts, volunteers and the law amongst others.

In December 2016 five of the six equalities forums who are members of BEING (Bristol Equalities Influence and Networking Group) found they had all been unsuccessful in their applications for core funding from Bristol City Council. The Council has decided to commission a Voice and Influence Service to cover the protected characteristics, which includes: race, disability, sex, sexual orientation, age, gender re-assignment, religion and belief.

Following on from the work of the Manifesto for Race Equality and its consultation with local communities, Bristol’s Interim Commission for Race Equality has now been established and endorsed by the Mayor for the City of Bristol.  Getting to this point has taken a lot of work and discussion in the background by the Manifesto Working Group (now the Interim Commission for Race Equality).

We will soon be seeking new Commissioners to run the formal Commission for Race Equality and be establishing a new Race Equality network.
