Nearly two-thirds of youth organisations in England are at risk of closure

Almost two-thirds of England’s youth organisations are at risk of closure, according to new research from the charity UK Youth.

Whilst the coronavirus pandemic has left 1.5 million vulnerable young people in need of vital help, many of the groups that support them are at risk themselves. What’s more, 31% of youth organisations surveyed with an income of less than £250,000 said they might have to shut in the next six months.

Government issues updated guidance on volunteering in the pandemic

Following an initial update from the Office for Civil Society in early November, the government has issued new and detailed guidance on safe and effective volunteering in England during the coronavirus pandemic.

The Office for Civil Society (part of the Department for Digital, Culture, Media & Sport) has issued new guidance on volunteering during the second lockdown in England, which is set to last from Thursday 5 November until at least Wednesday 2 December 2020.

Participants with experience of supporting women suffering domestic abuse wanted for new study

A University of Bristol research team is seeking participants who have experience of supporting a woman who has suffered abuse from a partner or family member.

The Building Resilience study aims to develop support for friends, family members, neighbours and colleagues of women experiencing abuse.

The study will take place during August 2020 and August 2021.

Number of serious incidents reported by charities doubles in a year

The number of serious incidents reported to the Charity Commission has increased by 47% since last year.

The figure, published in the regulator’s recent annual report, show that 5,730 reports were submitted in the last year, compared to just 3,895 in 2018-19.

Tackling Domestic Abuse Forum

 

This forum, streamed live by Westminster Insight, focuses on tackling domestic abuse, from identifying victims early on, to protecting victims during COVID-19, and understanding perpetrators. 

The Domestic Abuse Bill will also be reviewed at the event.

Domestic Abuse Awareness Training

 

Learn how to identify and deal with domestic abuse, and support the parents and children affected by it. We will cover legislation, statistics, children's wellbeing and development, and much more.

We will be using the Bristol Standard Dimensions on topics such as interactions and relationships, play and development, and equality, diversity and inclusion. 

Training will be delivered on Zoom.

CQC releases interim guidance on DBS checks

The CQC has released interim guidance on DBS and other recruitment checks for providers recruiting staff and volunteers to health and social care services in response to coronavirus.

The interim guidance has been launched after temporary changes were made to the DBS applications processes.

Understanding Forced Marriage

 

Forced Marriage Training (CPD accredited – 1 hour) with The Sky Project, a registered Bristol charity working to reduce the number of forced marriage cases in Bristol and the South West.

Sabeena Pirooz will be running another CPD accredited training session for 1 hour. Tickets are £10, plus a small administration fee, which will go straight back into the charity.

Safeguarding resources from NCVO

 

NCVO has launched a range of safeguarding resources to help organisations keep donors, service users, staff and volunteers safe. The resources, as part of NCVO Knowhow, include details of safeguarding policies and procedures, checklists, frameworks, and advice on whistleblowing and reporting abuse.
